It is a very stable surfboard to stand on and use a long paddle in your hand to glide across the water and experience river and landscape that normally cannot be accessed.
Most people can - and they love it! It is relatively easy to learn... most pick up the basics right away. All ages and skill levels can participate.
The minimum age is 10 years old to paddle on your own. 7-10 can ride on a board with an adult. As long as you are in good health there is no reason why seniors cannot paddle.
Please wear a swimsuit and sun protection. You need to bring a water bottle and we will bring extra water. Shoes you do not mind getting wet.
If we deem the water conditions for the day dangerous we reserve the right to reschedule (safety first). Typically if it is raining, windy, cloudy, or hot we still go out on the river.
Yes, just sign up and you will be added into a group at the specified time. Also, private lessons are also available upon request.

Maybe... after all, paddle boarding is a water sport. Many people do not get wet, but those who do usually have more fun. And the sooner you fall off and learn how to get back on the better. Once you are already wet, and you know how to get back on, you are more likely to try more things because who cares you're already wet. It's not a badge of honor to stay dry. If you get wet it just means you tried something new.
Something that you don't mind getting wet: a swimsuit, board shorts, or other moisture wicking, quick-dry, preferably SPF rated, clothing will work great.
While we do take walk-ins and last minute reservations, we strongly suggest that you book your trip as far in advance as possible. Our Colorado River trips fill up quickly, especially during the peak rafting season of May through August.
Safety is our #1 concern at Paddle Moab.
Rafting is thrilling, exciting, wet, wild and unbelievably fun. However, as with all adventure sports, there is inherent and assumed risk involved. Risk contributes to the excitement, and is one of the reasons people enjoy rafting at all levels. The guides working at Paddle Moab are trained to minimize and manage risks. The most common injuries on rafting trips are sunburn and injuries that occur on land, especially getting into and out of the boats. Despite our training and risk management attempts, things can happen, we try really hard to ensure your safety, we simply cannot make that claim.
Plan "A" is always to stay in the boat, but believe it or not, many people love falling out of the raft, after the fact. It's exciting, but is can be disorienting and a little overwhelming at first. Many people have taken multiple trips and never fallen in. Some people swim on their first trip. It's all a part of rafting. Before you go on any trip, you'll be given extensive instructions on what to do if you fall in, and how to be a smart swimmer. Follow your guide's instructions and your "swim" could be the most exciting part of your trip and a great story to tell your friends afterwards!
Yes. Everyone on commercial rafting trips wears a coast guard approved 'life vest' or personal floatation device (PFD). This critical piece of equipment is designed to aid in keeping you afloat in the event that you find yourself in the river.
You should be reasonably healthy, and must be able to fit into the life vests supplied by us. Paddling can sometimes be tiring, but your guides will instruct you on paddling techniques which are lots of fun to learn. If you're in doubt about your fitness to go rafting check with your doctor before you go.
Please wear a swimsuit and sun protection. You need to bring a water bottle and we will bring extra water. Please also wear shoes you do not mind getting wet.
Yes. However, we have age restrictions of 7 and up.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your trip departure unless we are picking you up from your hotel.
Our rafts typically seat 6-7 people and a guide, this is because we run smaller rafts and are adamant about not overloading them as a matter of safety and social responsibility.

While any outdoor activity has inherent risk, at Paddle Moab our top priority is always safety, and reducing/mitigating any risks. We bring extensive experience to our canyoneering and climbing trips. Our guides also have advanced first aid training. That said, you are also responsible for your own safety. Please listen carefully to safety briefings and always follow your guide's instructions - because a safe trip is a fun trip!
We will be in a wilderness setting where access to definitive care takes longer than normal and cell service in minimal. if you need any fast-acting medications such as an epiPen, diabetic glucose or an asthma inhaler it is imperative that you bring them along on your trip.
Yes. Time in the canyon averages between 3-4 hours depending on the size of the group and the canyon location. You will be outdoors on steep, boulder-strewn and potentially slick terrain. A good rule of thumb for fitness is: You can comfortably walk 3 miles on semi-steep and/or uneven trails carrying a light pack. Comfortably hike on uphill and downhill slopes. Can climb or descend 5 flights of stairs, and can climb a ladder with ease.
No. First-timers with a sense of adventures are always welcome. The guides will give you a demonstration and safety briefing prior to the start of your trip and will assist you throughout the day if you have any questions.
Yes, being outdoors is always a great family activity! All canyoneering participants must be at least 8 years of age.
Our guides are providing a professional service to you, your family or your group. Guides depend on tips are part of their income. A good rule of thumb is to tip your guide as you would a server in a restaurant, 15-30% of the trip, but of course any tipping is always at your own discretion. Gratuity is deeply appreciated.
We recommend that you wear loose, comfortable clothing that is not bulky because you will be wearing a harness. Multiple, thinner layers are preferable, as weather conditions can change throughout the day. You will have some opportunities to add or subtract layers if needed, so plan to carry them with you in your pack. A small rain jacket if there is rain in the forecast. We don't recommend long pants, but if you choose to wear shorts we recommend they be a longer style so they don't get bunched up in your harness. Comfortable shoes for walking and hiking. No flip-flops or open toed shoes.
We ask that you do not bring valuables or anything else on the trip that you would mind having lost, wet or broken. You will be able to leave things like a change of clothes, towel, and other items in the van at the trailhead near the canyon, so please bring those along with you. Your cell phone is unlikely to work though, so we suggest that you don't risk bringing it on the actual trip. If you would like to take pictures of your trip, we suggest instead that you bring a small, waterproof/shockproof camera or disposable camera. We highly suggest bringing 2-3 liters of water and a light snack in your pack for yourself. Keep in mind that you are responsible for carrying your own things, so pack light.
Yes, for half-day trips we provide snacks. For full day trips we provide healthy sandwiches and snacks.
We provide all gear for technical canyoneering trips (helmet, harness, carabiners, rappel device, etc.).
